Raw Paw

I present to you, RAWPAW...

an independent art magazine based in Austin, TX. The magazine is heavily illustrated but surprisingly the artists left the layout and type choice up to designer Angie Calderon. According to What the Font, the headline type is a modified version of Examiner NF Regular, a geometric sans serif. Calderon mimicked the screen printed feel in her type choice by offsetting a purple copy of the headline underneath and lowering the opacity. This works well with the bitmap styling which continues the (poorly) screen printed theme.

I felt the type choice was appropriate because it adds to the overall aesthetic of the art magazine and doesn't distract from the visuals with unnecessary ornament and inappropriate hierarchy. The show of Raw Paw is the imagery and Calderon does a fantastic job of keeping a consistent aesthetic without spoiling the readers eye.
