Hey guys!
So better late than never. But for this blog post I chose Frank Restaurant in Austin. The identity for the restaurant was created by Christian Helms of Helms Workshop in Austin. I found this in the Comm Arts Typography Annual from last year. I saw it and immediately had to post it because I've been to this place and first of all: it's delicious, second of all: I remember being constantly impressed by the whole look and feel of it, especially the menus.
Helms mentions that he wanted to create a design that was accessible to all types of people and he definitely succeeded:
The type faces used are Banque Gothic, Futura, and Metro Script. Also there's a little bit of hand lettering, which is awesome. Frank has a great modern feel with a hint of vintage and the type choices reflect that. Futura and Metro Script are easily readable and relate-able. The typography helps to convey the friendly, relaxed, and open vibes of the restaurant.
