This poster (found via Typography - 2010 Type Directors Club) for Takeo Tchinai's show, Left Hand Pianist, uses a modern type face called Braggadocio Regular. It achieves a vintage feel, while still feeling contemporary. The pairing with the simple illustration adds to this effect. The angled plane prevents the type from feeling too square. The type is not normally a type that I would attempt to use, but seeing it used in an appealing way makes me rethink this position.
